India and Canada have launched a joint trade and investment platform aimed at revitalizing their economic ties. This initiative, deemed a significant step by both countries, seeks to enhance direct dialogue among business communities and foster new investment opportunities. According to a joint statement released on Friday, the platform will play a crucial role in bringing industries from both nations closer and strengthening long-term business partnerships.

The announcement follows Indian Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal’s visit to Canada from May 25 to 27, during which he engaged with several key industry representatives and trade organizations. During this official visit, Minister Goyal also held an important bilateral meeting with Canada’s Minister of International Trade, Maninder Sidhu, where they discussed various topics related to trade, investment, and economic cooperation.

The new trade and investment platform aims to serve as a common ground for Indian and Canadian business leaders to identify new commercial possibilities, encourage investments, and further solidify commercial relations between the two countries. Officials believe that regular dialogue and direct contact will accelerate business activities and open up opportunities for collaboration in new sectors.

In addition to trade cooperation, both nations have agreed to enhance people-to-people contacts by facilitating business travel, encouraging the movement of professionals, and strengthening direct business relationships. These steps are expected to create a conducive environment for investment and trade expansion.

During their meetings, both sides reiterated their commitment to advancing the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which is considered vital for the economic relations between India and Canada. This agreement is expected to aid in improving market access, strengthening supply chains, and boosting investment flows. They have also agreed on a shared goal to advance talks and finalize the agreement by the end of the year, which is anticipated to reduce trade barriers and create new economic opportunities in various sectors.

Canada’s Minister of International Trade, Maninder Sidhu, announced plans to lead a special trade delegation to India later this year. This mission aims to connect Canadian companies with the Indian market and broaden cooperation between industries in both countries. Experts believe that these recent initiatives could strengthen economic ties between India and Canada, creating new opportunities for collaboration in investment, manufacturing, technology, and other fields. Both governments are eager to further energize business dialogue in the coming times.
